Unless otherwise exempt, as of October 1, 2013, a Maryland resident must possess a valid Handgun Qualification License before he/she may purchase, rent, or receive a handgun. You do not need a Handgun Qualification License to own a gun you already have. The Handgun Qualification License is only needed for purchasing, transferring, or renting a regulated firearm after October 1, 2013.

The Maryland HQL Training  is a 4 hour course that provides you with the necessary course of instruction to apply for a Maryland Handgun Qualification License.

This course is for those Maryland Residents who want to purchase, rent, or receive a handgun in Maryland. If you plan to apply for your Maryland Handgun Wear and Carry Permit, we recommend you sign up for the Maryland Handgun Wear and Carry Permit Training instead, so that you can avoid additional training costs and application related fees. Maryland residents that possess a Maryland Handgun Wear and Carry Permit can apply for the Maryland Handgun Qualification License for no additional cost. 

The Maryland HQL Training is $125 for your classroom instruction.
